Housing Assistance Payment Scheme helps 211 households in Sligo find Housing in 2016.

As part of meeting the Government’s ambitious “Rebuilding Ireland” target for the Housing Assistance Payment scheme (HAP) of securing housing for 12,000 households nationally in 2016, 211 households on the housing list in Sligo County Council have found long-term housing through HAP in 2016. Since November 2015 when HAP began in Sligo County Council more than 220 households have found housing through the scheme.

Minister for Housing, Planning, Community & Local Government Simon Coveney, TD, visited Sligo on Friday 17th February to ‘turn the sod’ on the Fr O’Flanagan Housing Scheme. The Minister was welcomed by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Hubert Keaney, Chief Executive Ciarán Hayes, public representatives and members of the project team. The main contractors for the 22 unit scheme are Brendan Sammon (Aughnasheelin) Ltd. Ballinamore.

“Let’s not only get Sligo walking, let’s get the world walking in Sligo,” were the final words spoken at the launch of the new Sligo Walks website and video at Sligo Airport, Strandhill on Friday last.  Those words were spoken by Deirdre Lavin of the Sligo Sport & Recreation Partnership, who were among the many organisations, groups and other stakeholders present at the event, which also included a short but symbolic walk in glorious sunshine along the nearby Killaspugbrone Looped Walk in Strandhill.

Sligo Water Mains and Sewer Rehabilitation Project

Over 65 per cent of the Sligo Water mains and Sewer Rehabilitation project is complete at this stage with all pipe-laying works on target for completion by March 2018, two months ahead of schedule.  The works represent a €6.8 million investment by Irish Water in Sligo and will ensure an improved supply to all customers by reducing leakage and bursts.  The project will also deliver financial savings over the medium and long term through reduced maintenance costs associated with the upgraded pipeline.
