As part of the Blue Flag activities for Rosses Point Junior and Senior Infants from Réalt na Mara National School, Rosses Point, made a special visit to Rosses Point beach on Monday 6th June to celebrate 30 years of the Blue Flag.

The children visited Sligo County Libraries Mobile Library at the beach and Librarian Brenda Cawley entertained the class with storytelling.
After stories about sea life, oceans and even Teddy getting lost at the beach, the children joined Cathaoirleach, Councillor Hubert Keaney, County Council staff from the Environment section, and Clean Coast volunteers to celebrate their community association with the Blue Flag at Rosses Point beach.
Rosses Point was awarded its first Blue Flag in 1988, the first year the Programme operated in Ireland. The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised eco-labels. Beaches that achieve this accolade must comply with a specific set of criteria relating to water quality, information provision, environmental education, safety and beach management.
An Taisce is celebrating 30 years of the international Blue Flag Programme and to acknowledge this Sligo County Council is holding a Colouring Competition for young people. Cathaoirleach, Councillor Hubert Keaney during his visit to the mobile library launched the competition which will run through the summer months.
