The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Hubert Keaney welcomed the Austrian Ambassador to Ireland Dr. Thomas Nader to County Hall on Thursday 2nd February.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Embassy’s Commercial Counsellor Mr Wilhelm Nest. Dr Nader has been Ambassador to Ireland since 2012, having previously served in Australia Previous service in Brussels, Canberra, Stockholm.

At a meeting attended by Director of Services Bartley Gavin, the Ambassador enquired about the history and structure of local government, the main issues facing Sligo County Council, and the likely impact of Brexit on the national and local economy.

Mr Nest heads up an Association called ‘Advantage Austria Dublin’, which hosts between 15 and 20 events per year in Ireland and Austria.  He discussed the commercial and trade links between our respective countries, and explained that Austria’s economy highly diversified, innovative and technology-driven and export-oriented.

Following the meeting the Cathaoirleach made a presentation to Ambassador Nader and Mr Nest and invited them to sign the Distinguished Visitors’ Book.
