Good News for Sligo Entrants in Tidy Towns Awards

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Seamus Kilgannon has welcomed the results of the National Tidy Towns Awards and commended the many volunteers across County Sligo who played an active role in their communities.

Sligo was awarded a bronze medal and pride of place in the county went to Coolaney, Gold medal winners in their population category.

‘The dedicated volunteers in our Tidy Towns Groups in Sligo town and throughout the county can take great pride in their efforts.  Coolaney’s Gold medal was due reward for their excellent work over many years and it is great to see this endeavour acknowledged.’

The Cathaoirleach continued

‘‘I think the fact that there has been an improvement right across the board speaks volumes for the spirit and energy of our communities.  Sligo has a long tradition of volunteerism which is reflected in the marvellous work carried out all over the county.  I would also like to acknowledge the dedication of Council staff who work with great energy and enthusiasm alongside the Tidy Towns committees, and their achievements this year will inspire them to even greater efforts in the future. It is very fitting that these improvements have taken place in the year when Sligo is designated as ‘European Capital of Volunteering.’
