Council briefed on Development Plans for Hawk’s Well Director of the Hawk’s Well Theatre Marie O’Byrne with Cathaoirleach Councillor Hubert Keaney and Chief Executive Ciarán Hayes

The Director of the Hawk’s Well Marie O’Byrne attended the April meeting of the Council to present a briefing on development plans for the theatre.

The Members were advised that funding of €550,000 was committed by the Department of Arts with an equivalent required in matching funding.

The theatre employs 30 staff, hosts over 250 events annually, attracting over 50,000 audience members.  Among the objectives set out in the development plan:

  • Improved accessibility.
  • Flood prevention measures.
  • Additional office space.
  • Additional small performance space.
  • Upgrades in the auditorium.
  • Improved building frontage.
  • Extended foyer space.

The presentation highlighted recent improvements at the Theatre, including 20% more workshops and performances, 27% increase in audience figures, and 30% increase in participation.

The Members commended Ms O'Byrne and the Hawk’s Well staff for their outstanding work and Cathaoirleach Councillor Hubert Keaney said the theatre was a valued presence in our community.
