Ceremonies will take place countrywide on Sunday 9th July as part of a National Day of Commemoration, which commemorates all Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations.

The event is hosted on the Sunday nearest July 11th, the anniversary of the date in 1921 that a truce was signed ending the Irish War of Independence.
Sligo's ceremony is getting underway at 2.00pm outside City Hall in Quay Street.
The programme for this public event includes an ecumenical service, participation of members of our Defence Forces under Comdt. Gerry O’Grady, and musical performances by Sligo Concert Band and soloist Olivia O'Hanlon. Special guests on the day are ex servicemen and ex servicewomen and the relatives of decreased members of the Defence Forces.
The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Seamus Kilgannon said the National Day of Commemoration is one of the most important Ceremonies hosted by the Authority. It provides an opportunity for our community to come together to pay a public tribute to the many brave people who have served with distinction in our Defence Forces.'
