At its July meeting on Monday, Sligo County Council agreed to hold a Civic reception to honour Mona McSharry following her outstanding success in the European Junior Championships last week, when she won two gold medals and a silver medal, and also set a new Irish Record.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Seamus Kilgannon, who attended her homecoming in Grange Monday evening, said
"This is a wonderful occasion for Mona, and also for her parents, who made many early mornings and late evenings in bringing Mona to training in Ballyshannon. She is a great athlete and she deserves every success that comes her way. I look forward to welcoming her to County Hall to formally honour Mona for her achievements."
