Thanks to the quick response of Sligo County Council with cooperation of Coillte and local land-owners, the fire damaged section of the Sligo Way has been fully restored.

Swift Response Restores Sligo Way Boardwalk
The recent forestry and gorse fires caused significant damage, including the destruction of the iconic Sligo Way raised wooden boardwalk between Slish Wood and the Lake Isle of Innisfree
Representations were made immediately to the Council seeking the restoration of this valuable recreational trail, particularity with the forthcoming Sligo Camino held annually by Coolaney Development Company scheduled for 1st July. The Department of Arts, Heritage regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs acknowledged the urgency of the situation and approved funding of €54, 000.
Sligo County Council’s contractor Carbury Construction and staff under the supervision of Senior Executive Engineer Michael Carty and Ray O’Grady, Executive Planner, worked tirelessly to ensure the trail was successfully repaired within the very tight time –frame for completion. The support and goodwill of Coillte and the local landowners was crucial to the success of the project.
