No Burning Waste

Burning waste is not only an environmental nuisance to your neighbours, but it can also have a serious negative health impact. Burning certain types of waste can release toxic fumes into the air, and these chemicals, when they cool, will settle once again on the land in your community, effecting the crops we eat and the air we breathe. Check out our latest blog post to find out what the health dangers of burning waste are.

Say No to Burning Waste

A series of photos taken by our Waste Enforcement Team showing illegal burning of waste in Sligo. These photos all show examples of burn sites in the Sligo area, and as you will see, items such as tyres, treated timbers, copper wiring and more will release toxic chemicals into the atmosphere. This burning process will not only potentially harm those near the fires themselves but could harm people, livestock and crops in the community, especially children and people with respiratory problems

But it’s a fact that the prospect of dumping our waste in the ground is no longer viable in the long term, especially as there are many alternatives available. Basically, we need to change the way we dispose of our waste, and this will come down to personal choices we make.
