Goods Vehicles

For first taxation of a new or imported goods vehicle you need:

  • Application form RF100 (obtainable from car dealer if purchased new or from NCTS Centre if imported, new or used).  Form must be fully completed and signed ensuring valid insurance details are entered
  • Appropriate fee.  Refer to motortax.ie for Rates of Tax Duty
  • Weight Docket.  Docket must have been issued from an Authorised Weighbridge
  • CRW/Pass Statement (if vehicle over one year old)
  • Completed Goods Only Declaration form RF111A - Goods Only Declaration (PDF) - 12 kbs if DGVW is less than 3,500kg.  Declaration form available from Motor Tax Offices, or Garda Stations.  Owners must also enter their income Tax Registration Number on the Goods Only Declaration Form.  

To renew Motor Taxation on a goods vehicle (can be done online on www.motortax.ie)

  • Completed application form, ie Reminder RF 100b (this is the computerised form which issues from Shannon), or, in the event of not receiving reminder, you can complete form RF100a - Motor Tax Renewal Form (PDF) - 738 kbs .  Form must be completed and signed by the registered owner ensuring valid insurance details are entered
  • Current Certificate of Roadworthiness or a valid pass statement from Authorised Testing Centre
  • Appropriate fee.  Refer to motortax.ie for Rates of Tax Duty

To renew Motor Taxation on a goods vehicle where a re-declaration is required (eg change of tax class, change of engine, change of colour):

  • Change of particulars Declaration Form RF111 - Change of Particulars (PDF) - 156 kbs must be fully completed and signed ensuring valid insurance details are entered. 
  • Registration Book/Vehicle Registration Certificate
  • Tax Disc (if still current)
  • If changing to Commercial Tax from Private a Goods Only Declaration (RF111A - Goods Only Declaration (PDF) - 12 kbs) is required where vehicle is under 3,500kg
  • Appropriate fee.  Refer to motortax.ie for Rates of Tax Duty
  • Please note for change of engine, you will need details of the engine change noted on the form and certified by the Registered Garage who carried out the work

To renew Motor Taxation on a goods vehicle after a change of ownership has occurred and new owner details have been updated on the National Vehicle Driver Computer System (NVDF):

To renew Motor Taxation on a goods vehicle where change of ownership has not yet been recorded on the NVDF and you are in possession of previous owner’s Vehicle Registration Certificate:

  • Vehicle Registration Certificate signed by previous owner and new owner, stating date of sale
  • Application form RF100a - Motor Tax Renewal Form (PDF) - 738 kbs form must be fully completed and signed ensuring valid insurance details are entered
  • Current Certificate of Roadworthiness or a valid pass statement from Authorised Testing Centre (if vehicle over one year old)
  • Weight Docket (if under 3,500kgs) Docket must have been issued from an Authorised Weighbridge
  • Completed Goods Only Declaration Form RF111A - Goods Only Declaration (PDF) - 12 kbs (if DGVW is less than 3,500kg).  Declaration form available from Motor Tax Offices, or Garda Stations or online at motortax.ie.  Owners must also enter their income Tax Registration Number on the Goods Only Declaration Form
