The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Paul Taylor, has welcomed today’s announcement by Minister Heather Humphreys of major funding for County Sligo under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

€1.3 M announced for Sligo’s Town & Village renewal projects
‘With an allocation of €1.3M, Sligo has received the largest funding of any Local Authority in the country. This is great news for the people of Sligo and is due to the outstanding work of the Council’s project team and the local communities they work alongside. In recent years we have transformed our county with a number of exceptional walkways, trails and recreation areas, and the funding announced for projects in Aclare, Calry, Kilglass, Ballygawley, Keash and Ballymote will further enhance our range of facilities for the local communities and the visitors to these areas.’
Sligo County Council’s Chief Executive Martin Lydon believes the delivery of these projects ‘confirms our status as a major centre for economic growth. The Council’s elected members, staff and the various project teams are committed to delivering for our county. These projects will be a major addition to our recreational infrastructure and will further improve our tourist offering in this key area.’

Aclare - €100,00
Remote working hub: Refurbishment of a vacant former childcare facility in the centre of Aclare to provide for a digital hub/remote working space incorporating a community space and outreach services/ facilities.
Calry - €250,000
Repurposing and upgrading of a vacant former parish hall to provide the wider Calry region with a modern, more sustainable community facility incorporating multi-purpose and remote working spaces.
Kilglass - €500,000
Development of a modern fit-for-purpose community facility including multi-purpose spaces, meeting rooms and remote working facilities
Ballygawley - €100,000
Provision of multi-purpose, part-covered outdoor performance and event spaces at Ballygawley Community Park and associated amenity site improvements, public realm landscaping interventions, and promotional activities.
Keash - €100,000
Development of outdoor public gathering spaces and new trailhead/ orientation facilities for the nearby Caves of Keash heritage site.
Ballymote - €250,000
Provision of town centre co-working facilities and community multi-purpose spaces, public realm enhancements, landscaping and upgrade works for the Ballymote town park.
