Under the European Union (Drinking Water) Regulations 2023, Sligo County Council are the supervisory authority for Small Private Supplies (SPS) and are responsible for monitoring these supplies and ensuring that the parametric analysis of these supplies meets the quality standards set out in these regulations.
Notice to Private Drinking Water Supplies
You are deemed a Small Private Supply under the European Union (Drinking Water) Regulations 2023 if you own a private water supply and your supply is used in a public/commercial activity or is providing more than 10m3/10000litres a day or supplying more than 50 persons.
Small Private Supplies are defined as those ‘serving a commercial or public activity, in which the abstraction, treatment and distribution of treated water are managed by that same commercial or public entity’
Examples of Small Private Supplies include Venues/Commercial properties including B&B’s, pubs, restaurants/cafes, childcare facilities, businesses with staff, that are served by a well.
Each local authority is required under Regulation 14(5) of the European Union (Drinking Water) Regulations 2023 to maintain a register of Private Water Supplies within their functional area.
Small Private Supplies are required to register with Sligo County Council.
