Temporary COVID-19 Mobility Plan for Sligo Town Centre

Sligo County Council in consultation with Sligo BID and other various stakeholders have prepared a Temporary COVID-19 Mobility Plan for Sligo town centre to improve physical distancing for pedestrians on the busier town core centre streets during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plan is a living document and will be subject to update and review over the coming weeks and months ahead depending on Government and HSE advise.  Under Stage 1 of the temporary COVID-19 Sligo Town centre mobility plan changes to car parking provision and delivery locations will come into effect from week commencing 15th June.  The measures will be in operation all the time.  Under Stage 2 it is proposed to keep O’Connell Street closed following the completion of the works on the 10th July from 11am to 5pm Monday-Sunday.  It is also proposed to introduce a one way system for pedestrians on a number of the town core centre streets which will be reinforced with appropriate signage and lining.

StreetMobility Plan update
Castle Street Removal of car parking spaces on the south side to accommodate two way pedestrian movement. Early morning deliveries will be accommodated from 6am to 10am. A number of car parking spaces will be provided off peak from 7pm in the evening.
Market Street

Addition of 1no. disabled bay, provision of 4no. “Click and Collect” car parking places and provision of an additional loading bay.

Grattan Street

Removal of car parking spaces and loading bays on the north side from Cordners Shop to O’Connell St to allow for two way pedestrian movement.

Lower John Street Provision of 2no. “Click and Collect” car parking places.
Stephen Street

Removal of car parking spaces and loading bays on the south side from Hyde Bridge to the entrance to the Stephen St. Car Park to allow for two way pedestrian movement.

Stage 2:

StreetMobility Plan update
O’Connell Street The current works on O’Connell St are due to be completed on the 10th July. The proposal is to close O’Connell Street to vehicular traffic from 11am to 5pm Monday-Sunday after this date. The street will be pedestrianised during the hours of 11am to 5pm.  Deliveries will be able to access O’Connell Street from 7a.m. to 11a.m.
