Indian Ambassador visits Sligo

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Dara Mulvey and Mayor Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady have hosted a visit from the Indian Ambassador His Excellency Sandeep Kumar

Ambassador Kumar has been Ambassador to Ireland since November 2018, and has previously served in Zagreb, Kabul, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Paris and Hanoi.

The Ambassador is a multi-linguist, speaking Hindi, English, French, Chinese and German. He has a passion for the arts, travel and sports, and his itinerary in Sligo included visits to Sligo Museum and the Model Gallery.

The Cathaoirleach said ‘There is a long association between the people of Sligo and India, and in recent times this was evident with the erection of a bust of the poet Tagore in Wine St., Sligo. The visit of Ambassador Kumar will strengthen the bonds of our enduring friendship’

On Wednesday morning Ambassador Kumar visited Sligo County Museum to examine a fascinating collection of exhibits displaying the rich history of County Sligo from the Neolithic era to the 21st Century.

The Yeats Room displays photographs, letters and newspaper cuttings associated with poet William Butler Yeats and the Yeats family. Artefacts and memorabilia associated with Countess Constance Markievicz and her sister Eva Gore-Booth are also on display.
