With the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, a Freephone service has been launched in Sligo to assist those who are isolated or need other assistance.

Established and co-ordinated by Sligo County Council, the Community Call Helpline draws on the wide range of volunteers and has already provided targeted assistance to those members of our community in greatest need.
Available seven days a week from 8.00am – 8.00pm, the service draws on our deep sense of community where organisations such as local Community Councils, GAA Clubs, Volunteer Centres, Public Participation Network, Civil Defence, Order of Malta and the many charities, all come together with the HSE, Council, Gardaí, An Post and Government Departments in a combined effort to deal with this unprecedented pandemic.

The main message I want to convey to the elderly, isolated or vulnerable in our community is that we are here to help, and I urge people to use our confidential freephone number – 1800 292 765 – and our staff and wide of network of volunteers will be delighted to help out.
I am humbled and inspired by the many people who have shone during this crisis, the health service staff, the front-line emergency services, the public servants and their teams who have worked tirelessly to put a range of valuable supports in place. Their dedication is greatly appreciated.
Loneliness is not just a rural phenomenon, people can feel equally isolated in busy towns, and we are here to offer support wherever people live in our county. No-one should feel that they are dealing with this emergency alone, there are people in every community anxious to assist.

‘The Community Call Helpline is focused on ensuring vulnerable members of the community or those living alone, wherever they are in County Sligo, can get help in getting groceries, medicines or assistance in any other area.
This is a concerted community effort where the many volunteers and all the key local agencies are working together to respond to those in our community who are most in need. We are committed to delivering a quick and efficient service, and will do so as long as the emergency measures are in place.
