Councillor Arthur Gibbons has been elected Mayor at the Borough District of Sligo Annual General Meeting held on Monday 28th June.

Councillor Gibbons’ nomination was proposed by Councillor Bree, seconded by Councillor O’Grady and unanimously agreed.

In his address, Mayor Gibbons paid tribute to the country’s frontline workers for their services to our community throughout the Covid pandemic.  The Mayor hopes to see the Borough and Town Councils re-established, and intends to meet many Residents Associations and Community Groups in the Sligo-Strandhill area over the course of his term.

The Mayor outlined his greatest objective for the year is to introduce a pilot scheme to make the Sligo Borough/Strandhill completely access-friendly.

‘We have the potential to become an example for the rest of the country and make our communities accessible and safer for everyone.’
