Minutes of Strategic Policy Committee 4 – (Housing Policy/Social and Cultural Development) held on Thursday, 18th January 2007, at 4.00 pm in the Training Room, Riverside, Sligo

MINUTES OF MEETING OF 29th JUNE 2006:

Proposed by V. Cawley
Seconded by I. Henry

AND AGREED

“that minutes of meeting of SPC 4 held on 2nd November, 2006, be and are hereby approved.”

MATTERS ARISING FROM MINUTES:

Cllr Cawley suggested that correspondence should be sent to the department regarding St. Edwards Tce., Father Flanagan Tce. and Doorly Park with a View to progressing these projects.

IMPROVEMENT WORKS IN LIEU:

In reply to a query from Cllr Queenan, Ms. D. Clarke advised that a proposal in relation to the Improvements in Lieu Scheme would be discussed at the next SPC 4 meeting.

Cllr Queenan wished success to Ms. J. Burns in her new role as A/Administrative Officer and expressed thank to the work that Mr. J. Moran had done in the past.

SLIGO STRATEGIC ARTS PLAN (2007- 2012) PRESENTATION:

Mary McAuliffe made a presentation outlining progress to date and strategy for the next five years.

Cllr. Leonard commended the Arts Office on their exemplary service and wished them success for the future.

Cllr. Henry agreed and emphasised the work being done to instil culture and art in young people and extend opportunities throughout Sligo.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENHANCEMENT SCHEME (2007- 2010):

A discussion took place with regard to this and it was noted that residents should be notified in advance of any works being done. An Estate Management Officer should be appointed soon which will help communication.

USE OF WOOD BURNING PELLETS AS A SOURCE OF HEATING IN LOCAL AUTHORITY HOUSING:

A discussion took place with regard to setting up pilot schemes in Sligo. Cllr. Cawley asked if a presentation could be made at the next SPC meeting and when new estates are being planned energy sources such as this should be considered.

It was agreed that Sustainable Energy Project 2007 would be discussed at a future SPC 4 meeting.

SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS FOR 2007:

It was agreed to continue in 2007 with a similar schedule and it was agreed that the next meeting should be held on 29th March 2007 at 4.00pm.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

Ms. D. Clarke stated that a site visit should be planned taking into account several projects possibly including Library/Museum facilities with regard to upcoming plans for Sligo

Cllr. Cawley asked if points could be divulged to Councillors acting on behalf of the public but it was stated that this could not be done under the Data Protection Act unless permission was obtained from the person concerned.

The next meeting was scheduled for 4.00 pm on Thursday 29th March, 2007.


The meeting concluded at 5.20 pm.
