Minutes of the Meeting of the Municipal District of Ballymote-Tubbercurry Held on Monday 26th September, 2022 at 2.00 Pm in Teach Laighne, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo.

1.MINUTES OF MEETING OF MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF BALLYMOTE-TUBBERCURRY HELD ON 11th JULY, 2022:

2.MATTERS ARISING:

3.NOMINATION TO SLIGO PEACE PLUS PARTNERSHIP:

AND AGREED

“That Councillor P. Taylor be nominated to the Sligo Peace Plus Partnership from the Ballymote Tubbercurry Municipal District.”

 

4.TAKING IN CHARGE ROAD AT BUNNINA DROMARD: ROUTE:

At the request of Councillor M. Clarke this item was deferred to the agenda of the next Municipal District meeting

 

5. ACCESS TO CORKAMORE GRAVEYARD:

At the request of councillor M. Clarke this item was deferred to the agenda of the next Municipal District meeting.

 

6. JUNCTION OFF R293 AND L56031:

PROPOSED BY: COUNCILLOR D. MULVEY
SECONDED BY: COUNCILLOR G. MULLANEY

AND AGREED

“To ask Sligo County Council to erect a safety barrier at the junction off R293 and local road L56031.” 

Mr. Hughes, SEE reported that there is no funding available at present to carry out works at this location.  This matter will be forwarded to Road Design Section for consideration when submitting proposals to the Department of Transport for Safety Improvement Schemes for 2023.  

 

7. TRAFFIC CALMING AT KILGLASS:

At the request of Councillor M. Clarke this item was deferred to the agenda of the next Municipal District meeting.

 

8. VERGE STRENGTH WORKS R284:

 PROPOSED BY:  COUNCILLOR G. MULLANEY
SECONDED BY:  COUNCILLOR P. TAYLOR

AND AGREED:

“To call on the Council to seek funding for verge strength work on the R284 from Geevagh to Sooey.”

Mr. Hughes, SEE reported that the Department of Transport have grant aided verge strengthening works on a section of the R284 during the last 3 years under a Specific Improvement Grant. An application to DOT for further funding in 2023 will be made to enable additional verge strengthening to be carried out.

“To ask Sligo County Council to seek Specific Improvement Grant funding to include verge improvements and surfacing etc on the R293, Gurteen to Roscommon County Boundary in 2023.” 

 

9.  BALLINAFAD VILLAGE:

PROPOSED BY:  COUNCILLOR G. MULLANEY
SECONDED BY: COUNCILLOR P. TAYLOR

AND AGREED:

“To call on the Council to provide a raised pedestrian crossing with flashing lights in Ballinafad Village at the playground on road number L5805 in the interest of public safety.”

Mr. Hughes, SEE reported that there are a very low number of pedestrians crossing at this location. Vehicular traffic is also relatively low and a pedestrian crossing as requested is not considered to be justifiable at this time. 

The Ballymote Area Engineer will consider erecting suitable signage in the area. 

 

10.VODAFONE COVERAGE:

SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR D. MULVEY

AND AGREED:

“To call on Sligo County Council to write to Vodafone requesting that they investigate why phone and internet coverage has a much weaker signal than it had in the past in Ballymote.”

Following a discussion on the matter it was further agreed that Sligo County Council MD write to Vodafone and invite a representative to attend the next MD Meeting and give an update on the internet coverage in Ballymote, Tubbercurry, West Sligo and surrounding areas.

 

11. DIRECTIONAL SIGN AT “THE BOG ROAD”:

PROPOSED BY COUNCILLOR D. MULVEY
SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR G. MULLANEY

AND AGREED:

“To fit a road number or directional arrow at Doonmegan Ballymote known locally as The Bog Road”.

Mr. Hughes SEE reported that Sligo County Council erect road number signs on local roads at junctions with National and regional roads only.  Mr. D. Sloyan, Ballymote Area Engineer agreed to cost the sign.

 

12. ADDITIONS TO 2023 ROADS PROGRAMME:

SECONDED BY:  COUNCILLOR G. MULLANEY

AND AGREED:

“To include the roads for resurfacing on the 2023 roads programme.

A = Road by Emlagh Ballymote F56 X977 

B= road up towards Carrigans upper Ballymote passing F56 PX31.”

Mr. Hughes, SEE reported that in regard to Road A –the road is not listed for surfacing in 2023 under the multi annual Restoration Improvement programme. A Community Involvement scheme grant would be appropriate for this road.  Councillor Mulvey is to revert to Mr. D. Sloyan regarding this request. 

In regard to Road B – A section of this road will be surfaced in 2023.

“That a vote of sympathy be extended to Ms. Nora Brennan, Teeling Street, Tubbercurry on the death of her brother Nathy.”

 

14.  VOTES OF CONGRATULATIONS:

AND AGREED:

“That a vote of congratulations be extended to Mr. Brian Colsh, Lisnanney Beg, Rathmullen, Ballymote on his recent winning of a bronze medal in the Final of the Mens Single Sculls at the World Rowing Championships in the Czech Republic.”

 

15.  CORRESPONDENCE:

  • Reply from NTA regarding Bus Shelters at Tubbercurry, Curry, Ballinafad, Gurteen and Bunninadden – noted.
  • Reply from TFI Local Link Office regarding Bus Service for Bunninadden – noted.
  • Municipal District to send reminder to Minister for Transport requesting a further allocation of funds to the CIS.

17. ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

LOUGH NA SUIL:

Mr. D. Sloyan, Ballymote Area Engineer confirmed the OPW have accepted an application for funding for a study on Lough na Suil.  Funding is awaited.  A further application for funding for the works will be required. 

 

LOCAL LINK SERVICE SOUTH SLIGO AREA:

AND AGREED:

“That the Municipal District write to TFI Local Link to provide a bus service for the Bellaghy, Curry, Tubbercurry Banada, Cloonacool and the surrounding South Sligo Area into Sligo City.”
