Jim is originally from Armagh, where he was educated at Clintyclay PS and St. Patrick’s Grammar School, before graduating from Trinity College Dublin in 1997, with a BAI (Hons.) in Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering. After a couple of years working in the private sector in Dublin, in 1999 he entered the local government sector and after spells in Cork City Council, Cork County Council and Galway City Council, where he worked on the Cork Main Drainage Scheme, in Roads, Transportation, Water Services and Municipal District Operations and Rural Development. Jim joined Sligo County Council in 2021 as Director of Services for Housing & Corporate Services. Throughout his career he has worked on EU funded projects, in areas such as Social Inclusion, Rural Transport and Urban Centre Planning. In 2014 he was a member of the Derry-Londonderry-Doire crew that won the Clipper yacht race from New York to Derry.
