MCR (Mail Coach Road) to Burton Street Link Road

Project Update - February 2025

The Department of Transport have recently given consent for the above project to proceed to the tender stage for construction. The tender stage is now in process, and it is anticipated that construction will commence in Q2 / Q3 of this year. The project will bring significant benefits to the city:

Sydney Gallagher Parade, which is currently a cul de sac, will be extended onto Burton Street. This will significantly reduce motorised traffic congestion, and its associated air and noise pollution, at nearby locations in the south half of the city.
New road pavements and new wider footpaths will be constructed at Sydney Gallagher Parade, Burton Street, Pearse Road, Mail Coach Road and their junctions.
New traffic lights systems will be installed at Pearse Road and the Mail Coach Road junctions.
New pedestrian crossings will be installed at the Pearse Road, adjacent to the Mercy Primary School, and at Sydney Gallagher Parade.
New cycle lanes will be included on Sydney Gallagher Parade and Pearse Road.
The upgrade work will provide a safer, more fluent, and more amenable environment for Active Travel - cyclists and pedestrians, at the location.
The project will tie into planned future Active Travel schemes on the Pearse Road and Temple Street.
Upgrades will also include energy efficient street lighting, and new street furniture.
The new infrastructure will visually enhance the public areas of the city at the location.
