- Community reps (including youth, new and minority communities, social inclusion/C&V sector)
- Other areas of expertise
Together, they will identify and address community safety concerns at a local level.
What Does Community Safety Mean?
Community safety is more than just policing. It’s about creating environments where people feel safe and supported. This includes:
- Visible Garda presence
- Safe spaces for children and young people
- Support services for vulnerable groups
- Collaborative responses to local issues
A multi-agency approach ensures that services work together to meet the unique needs of each community.
How Will It Work in Sligo?
The LCSP will replace the existing Joint Policing Committees and serve as a central forum for discussing and deciding on community safety priorities.
Key features include:
- Up to 30 members, including elected councillors, representatives from public services, resident associations, community groups, the business and education sector and other areas of expertise
- Public consultation to identify local priorities
- Development of a Local Community Safety Plan
- Members will attend at least six meetings per year
Who’s Involved?
The LCSP will bring together:
- Elected Councillors, Sligo County Council, An Garda Síochána, Tusla, the HSE, and other State services
- Local residents and community leaders
- Voluntary and minority groups
The Partnership will be led by an independent chairperson and supported by a dedicated Community Safety Coordinator.
