Visit of Minister John Cummins

Sligo County Council was pleased to welcome Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins TD, to County Hall on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

During his visit, Minister Cummins met with Fine Gael elected members and the management team of Sligo County Council to discuss a range of local government and housing issues, with a particular focus on housing delivery, regeneration initiatives, and the continued investment being made in communities across County Sligo.

Following these meetings, Minister Cummins visited two housing developments currently being progressed by Sligo County Council.

The first visit was to the Cranmore Regeneration Project, where Minister Cummins received an update on the transformative regeneration programme underway in the area. The project, supported by funding from the DHLGH, is delivering substantial investment in housing, public realm improvements, community infrastructure, and enhanced amenities, helping to create a more vibrant and sustainable community for residents. The Minister visited the housing scheme being delivered in Geldof Drive by Coolsivna Construction Group Ltd. which is delivering 14 No. high-quality, energy-efficient, 1 and 2 bed social housing units, on the site which previously housed 10 No single storey derelict units.

The Minister then travelled to Rathellen, Finisklin, where construction is progressing on a development of 47 social housing units.  The scheme is being delivered under a Design and Build contract by Finna Construction Ltd. and is utilising Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) to provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes while supporting more efficient delivery timelines.
