Martin Lydon, Chief Executive of Sligo County Council, Cllr Dónal Gilroy, Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, John Pentony, Jons Civil Engineering
The works will be delivered by Jons Civil Engineering, following their appointment as the successful contractor.
The scheme has been designed by Building Design Partnership (BDP) and forms a key part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to deliver a high-quality, attractive and accessible city centre environment.
The project will deliver significant enhancements across a number of key city centre streets, including:
- Stephen Street
- Holborn Street
- Rockwood Parade
- Water Lane
- Tobergal Lane
Of these, Stephen Street and Holborn Street are vehicular streets, while Rockwood Parade, Water Lane and Tobergal Lane are primarily pedestrian in nature. This mix provides an opportunity to enhance both key movement routes and important pedestrian-focused public spaces in the heart of Sligo.
Construction is scheduled to commence in March 2026, with completion expected in Q4 2027.
Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Cllr Dónal Gilroy, speaking at the contract signing stated:
“This city centre scheme represents a major investment in Sligo’s future as the capital of the Northwest. Delivering high‑quality public spaces for the people of Sligo is one of our highest priorities, and today marks a significant step forward. I look forward to seeing these enhanced streets take shape and to the positive impact they will have on our town and the wider county.”
Chief Executive of Sligo County Council, Martin Lydon, added:
“This project supports Sligo’s role as a designated regional growth centre and reflects our commitment to developing a vibrant, accessible and attractive city. The URDF investment will enable transformative improvements that enhance quality of life, support economic activity and strengthen Sligo’s position as an excellent place to live, work, invest and visit. I look forward to the benefits this project will deliver for Sligo.”
