Civic Reception Honours Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA & LGFA – All-Ireland Scór Sinsear Champions
The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Cllr Dónal Gilroy, welcomed a distinguished gathering of guests, including Minister of State Marian Harkin, elected members, Uachtarán of Connacht GAA Vincent Neary, Leas-Uachtarán Connacht GAA and Cathaoirleach Scór Chonnacht Thomas Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Sligo GAA Declan Rouse, and Deputy Chief Executive of Sligo County Council Marie Whelan.
The guests of honour were the talented musicians Philip Duffy, Niamh McGloin, Megan Duffy, Noelle Mitchell, and Seán Carroll, who represented their club and county with distinction on the national stage. Their journey began in the Marian Hall, Calry, and culminated in a triumphant performance at the All-Ireland Scór Sinsear Finals, followed by a special appearance at Croke Park during the All-Ireland Football Final in July.
Speaking at the reception, Cllr Gilroy praised the group’s dedication, humility, and deep respect for Irish cultural traditions:
“This achievement is not only a triumph of musical excellence but a celebration of the deep-rooted cultural heritage that lives and breathes within our communities here in Sligo. You have done your club, your families, and your county proud.”
He also highlighted the group’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians through teaching and mentoring in schools and academies across the county.
The event celebrated not only a musical victory but also the enduring spirit of Scór, which since its inception in 1969, has championed the fusion of Gaelic games with Irish music, song, dance, and storytelling.
The Civic Reception served as a heartfelt tribute to the group’s exceptional talent and their role in continuing Sligo’s proud musical legacy, following in the footsteps of legends like Michael Coleman, James Morrison, and Paddy Killoran.
