County Sligo Gears Up for the National Bike Week 2026

The National Transport Authority (NTA), Sligo County Council and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, are delighted to announce a programme of free events and activities taking place across County Sligo to celebrate Bike Week 2026, which runs from Saturday, 9th May to Sunday, 17th May.

Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling, with hundreds of family friendly events including heritage cycles, maintenance workshops, and learn-to-cycle courses taking place nationwide. All 31 local authority areas are involved in Bike Week with events being organised jointly through the local authorities and local sports partnerships.

This year’s Bike Week programme in Sligo offers an exciting range of events suitable for all ages and abilities, ranging from Balance Bike Fun and children’s cycling skills sessions to adult bike lessons and school workshops. The week will also feature events such as Spin to Splash, Rock ‘n’ Roll Cycle & Climb, Bird Song by Bike, a Family Fun Day, a Lunchtime Cycle, and many more activities happening throughout the week.

Speaking ahead of the annual Bike Week celebration, Councillor Dónal Gilroy, Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, said:

“Bike Week is an exciting annual celebration that encourages people of all ages and abilities to discover the many benefits of cycling. With free, fun and inclusive events taking place across the county, there’s something for everyone — from complete beginners to seasoned cyclists — and I would encourage families and individuals alike to get involved and experience Sligo by bike.”

Those taking part in Bike Week are encouraged to share photos or videos to social media using #BikeWeek and tagging Sligo County Council @sligocountycouncil and Transport for Ireland @TFIUpdates.
