Sligo Fire Service Update

Sligo Fire Service Update

Important Notice From Sligo Fire Service Issued 8pm Sunday 9th May

With sporadic fires persisting in Easkey, Geevagh and Slish Wood, the practice of 'controlled burning'  during this continuing dry spell is strictly prohibited

Update on Fire at Easkey 12pm Sunday

After working through the night at the forest fire in Easkey, Sligo Fire Service has confirmed that the fire has been successfully contained, the Tubbercurry unit remains in attendance.

The biggest challenge faced by the Fire crews was gaining access to the fire, with an area of particular concern deep in the forestry between Lough Easkey and Lough Talt, a great distance from any road.

The Air Corps helicopter was at the scene from 3pm to 8pm Saturday fighting the fire with 1,000 litre capacity 'Bambi' buckets. The wind eased last night and the fire is confined to isolated pockets. Coillte has arranged for a contract helicopter to attend at the scene today to deal with these pockets.
