July 2026 Update

We are delighted to share the latest progress on the Eastern Garvoge Bridge and Approach Roads project. This development represents a significant step forward in enhancing local infrastructure and connectivity.

Project Updates

  • Design Completion: The detailed design phase is now substantially complete. The project will construct the following:
    • Approximately 1.8km of new road north of the Garvoge River.
    • Upgrade approximately 0.8km of existing road south of the Garvoge River.
    • Introduction of approximately 3.5km of new cycle tracks and footpaths.
    • Upgrade approximately 2.2km of existing cycle tracks and footpaths.
  • Utility Upgrades: Utility diversion designs have been finalised and approved, incorporating upgrades and future-proofing measures for long-term reliability.
  • Site Security: Additional fencing works in the northern sections are now complete, securing the site ahead of construction.
  • Project Website: The new standalone Project website is expected to launch in the coming Month. The new website is designed to provide the public with accurate, up-to-date information regarding the project's development. What you will find on the new site:
    • Project Overview: Information on the proposed route, bridge designs, cycling & active travel facilities.
    • Interactive Map & Visualisations: Visual guides to help you understand how the project connects with our current infrastructure and surrounding areas.
    • Traffic Alerts: Up-to-date information on scheduled road closures, lane reductions, road diversions, and traffic management plans.
    • Construction Progress: Progress updates, photos, and drone footage tracking the development of the roadway and bridge structures.

Next Steps

  • Contract Documents: Preparation of the contract documents for the construction stage is complete subject to a Department of Transport review.
  • Publication of Contract Documents: The process of shortlisting contractors is now complete. Tender documents for the construction stage are expected to be issued to shortlisted candidates in coming weeks subject to Department of Transport Approval.
