Traffic Report w/c 15th April, 2024

SLIGO URBAN AREA:

Road Resurfacing Works:

The 2024 road resurfacing programme will continue in the Sligo Urban Area through w/c 14th April. There will be significant Traffic Management measures (localised road closures, temporary traffic lights and/or Stop Go) in place by the main contractor Lagan throughout the works with delays expected at each location during the timeframes noted below, which are all weather dependent. VMS boards will be in place to advise driver of diversions. Sligo County Council regrets any inconvenience caused.

The Slip/Connaughton Road

Resurfacing works on The Slip and Connaughton Road will be carried out from Sunday 14th through to Tuesday 16th April at night between 19:00 to 02:00. There will be significant traffic management measures in place throughout with road closures and on-street parking will not be permitted. The Slip and Connaughton Road will be closed to vehicular traffic with local access only. Access to the Hospital will be via Ash Lane and Mall.

Ballytivian Road

Resurfacing works on Ballytivian Road will be carried out from Tuesday 16th through to Thursday 18th April at night between 19:00 to 02:00. There will be significant traffic management measures in place throughout with road closures and on-street parking will not be permitted. The Ballytivian Road will be closed to vehicular traffic with local access only.

Strandhill Road

Resurfacing works on Strandhill Road will be carried out from Wednesday 17th through to Thursday 18th April at night between 19:00 to 02:00. There will be significant traffic management measures in place throughout with road closures and on-street parking will not be permitted. The Strandhill Road will be closed to vehicular traffic with local access only.

Sea Road

Resurfacing works on Sea Road will be carried out from Thursday 18th through to Friday 18th April at night between 19:00 to 02:00. There will be significant traffic management measures in place throughout with road closures and on-street parking will not be permitted. The Sea Road will be closed to vehicular traffic with local access only.

 

JFK Parade:

E-bike enabling works on the footpath on JFK Parade will be commencing Wednesday 10th April for 2 weeks. Minimum disruption is expected with a single lane being maintained for vehicular traffic.  There will however be a number of street parking spaces unavailable during these works, along with minor diversions for pedestrians.

 

Roundabout at Caltragh: New water mains installation:

New watermains installation will be ongoing at Caltragh roundabout. Traffic lights / a Stop - Go system, will be in use when required.

 

Stephen Street

As part of the Queen Maeve Square project, road works will be taking place on Stephen Street at the entrance to the square, for the coming weeks.  Minimum disruption is expected with a single lane being maintained for vehicular traffic.  There will however be a number of street parking spaces unavailable during these works, along with minor diversions for pedestrians.

 

The “Bus Shelter Enabling Works contract” will continue with the Installation of bus shelters at:

  • Cairns Road, Sligo town and
  • Classibawn Road, Carton, Sligo town from Monday 26th

The contract will involve all civil works for the installation of new bus shelters.

Traffic Management will be in operation with minor delays expected.

IFN Project:

KN Circet working on behalf of Eir on the IFN project, will be carrying out works at the locations listed below:

Cleveragh Road, Cairns Drive, Fatima Avenue, Devins Drive, Yeats Drive, Collery Drive, Lanagan Drive, McNeill Drive, Racecourse View, Cranmore Drive, Geldoff Drive, Carrol Drive, John Fallon Drive, Joe McDonell Drive, Cranmore Lane, Saint Ann Terraace, Chapel Street, Cranmore Place, Cartron Estate, Avondale, Clarion Road, Ballytivan Road , Rathbraughan Park , Sahnnon Outher, Newgrove, Rathanna Road, Clarins Road, Markievicz Heights

 

Garavogue Bridge investigation works:

PMS are due to carry out Pavement surveys next week at the following locations and times.

N16-Molloway Hil junction – 19:00-07:00

Hazelwood Road / Short Walk, Riverside and Cranmore Road – After 09:30

Traffic Management will be in operation with minor delays expected.

SLIGO – DRUMCLIFFE AREA:

N15 Rathcormack South Pavement Resurfacing

The application of red-coloured surfacing on the N15 Rathcormack South Pavement Resurfacing Contract is scheduled for week commencing Monday 15th April. However, these works are subject to weather conditions.

To facilitate red coloured surfacing application, temporary traffic management measures will be implemented on the N15. This will include the use of traffic light single lane shuttle systems and stop/go operations as necessary to direct road users safely and efficiently through the Works. 

Work hours are scheduled from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, during which minor traffic delays are anticipated.

Sligo County Council apologies for any inconvenience arising from these works.

 

N16 Lugatober (Drumkilsellagh to Lugnagall) Road Project:

Construction works are Progressing on the N16 Lugatober Scheme.
Traffic management is in place with a 60km/h temporary speed limit in operation.

Temporary 2-way traffic lights are in place near Castlegal. This reduces traffic to single alternative flow for approx. 150m.
The L7415 Castlegal Road has been diverted onto the new section of the N16 via temporary ramp.

In the week commencing 01/04/2024 the current 3-way shuttle at Glencar will be replaced with two short section of 2-way traffic lights at Lugatober (Ch 1150 & Ch 1950).
This reduces traffic to single alternative flow for approx. 140m and 215m respectively. Access for residents along the old section of the N16 will be via L7413 Lugatober.

Delays are expected. Sligo County Council would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

 

Restoration Improvement and Drainage Works:

R291 Ballyweelin

Road Restoration/ Drainage Works will be carried out on the R291 Ballyweelin to Rosses point Road – Derry. A hard shoulder cycle lane Closure will be in place.

L-7206/L-7213-0 Dargan/Ballyscannell

Road Restoration/ Drainage Works will be carried out on the L-7213-0 Dargan/Ballyscannell. Traffic management and a Road Closure will be in place with signed Diversion in place. Local Access will be provided.

Pothole Repair

Routine maintenance will continue on Regional and Local Roads throughout the County in the coming week weather permitting. A Stop and Go Operation will be in effect.

 

ENNISCRONE AREA:

L64153 Ballyogan

Resurfacing works will take place on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th April 2024 from 8.00am to 5.00 p.m.  A temporary road closure will be in place. Local access will be provided. Local diversions in place. A 50km/hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.

 

L2603-0 Carns

Resurfacing works will take place on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th April 2024 from 8.00am to 5.00 p.m.  A temporary road closure will be in place. Local access will be provided. Local diversions. Will be in place A 50km/hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.

 

L2602-0 Attichree/Ballymoghany

Resurfacing works will take place on Friday 12th and Monday 15th April 2024 from 8.00am to 5.00 p.m.  A temporary road closure will be in place. Local access will be provided. Local diversions will be place. A 50km/hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.

 

Pothole repair works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation, but no delays are expected.

Drainage repair works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation, but no delays are expected.

 

Easkey village; New water mains installation

No work is planned for this week.

 

BALLYMOTE AREA:

The “Keenaghan - Low-Cost Safety Improvement Scheme” has commenced . The contract duration is approximately 5 weeks & involves new footpath, ramps & pedestrian crossing, and all associated civil works.  Traffic Management will be in operation with minor delays expected.

R294 Cloonloogh to County Boundary

Surfacing works will take place over a 500 meter section of the R294 from the County Boundary to Cloonloogh on Tuesday 6th February to Wednesday 7th February. Traffic lights will be in operation throughout the works.

 

R295 Carrowcory Road Closure

Surfacing works will ,continue over a 2km section of the R295. Road will be closed to traffic from 8.30a.m to 5.00p.m with local access only. Diversions will be in place via R293 and L-1806 Brougher Road. The road will remain closed from 8.30a.m to 5.00p.m until Friday 2nd February.

 

TUBBERCURRY AREA:

Pothole repair works will continue in the Tubbercurry area. Traffic control will be in operation, but no delays are expected

 

SLIGO STRANDHILL AREA:

Carraroe to Carrowmore: New water mains installation:

Work will be ongoing on the L 7511 road, between the Oakfield Road and Carrowmore. There will be a road closure in place, with access for local traffic only.             

 

Crossroads at Drumiskabole, to Ballysadare: New water mains installation:

New watermains installation will be ongoing between Belladrehid railway bridge and Ballysadare. Traffic lights / a Stop - Go system, will be in use when required.

 

Carricknagat to Collooney Active Travel Works:

New footpath construction to R290-1 – Carricknagat Railway Bridge to Owenmore River Bridge.

Temporary traffic lights in operation between Junction of R290 and L-2101-46 (Coolaney Road) and Collooney river bridge. –  EXPECT DELAYS.

 

Road Restoration Killery:

Road Restoration will be carried out on the L7604-13 Killery, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.

A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided.

Footpath repair works will continue in Cloondara, Ballisodare.
