SLIGO AREA

Roadworks at Mail Coach Road – Gallows Hill Junction – Essential Traffic Light Repairs

  • Traffic management measures will be in place at the junction of Mail Coach Road - Gallows Hill tomorrow Thursday 6th August between the hours of 09:30 and 13:00.  A Stop-Go traffic management system will be in place and delays can be expected. This work is required in order to carry out essential repairs to recently damaged traffic lights at the junction.

Knappagh Road – Roadworks at New Housing Development

  • Traffic management measures will be in place on Knappagh Road in the vicinity of the new housing development from 07:30 on Thursday 6th August through to 09:00 on Saturday  8th August.  A Stop-Go shuttle system will be in place during the hours of 07:30-19:00 and traffic lights will be in place during the hours of 19:00-07:30. Delays can be expected.  This work is required in order to construct new kerbing and footpaths at the entrance to the new SCC Housing Development.

Advance Notice – Knappagh Road Closure:

  • Knappagh Road will be closed between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 on Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th August 2020.  The location of the road closure will be from Scoil Ursula eastwards as far as the entrance to the new housing development. Alternative routes will be in place via Larkhill Road/Maugheraboy Road/Church Hill and the Sligo Inner Relief Road. Local access will be maintained as necessary. This temporary road closure is necessary to facilitate the permanent reinstatement of the road surface further to recent sewer, water and ESB installations.

Western Distributor Road - Oakfield Road: 

  • Over the coming months construction traffic will be crossing the realigned Oakfield Road at the new Maugheraboy Roundabout. Traffic management will be in operation. All road users are advised to exercise due care and attention when passing through this area.

Lord Edward Street – Wolfe Tone Street Junction – New Pedestrian Crossing, Road Realignment and Footpath Enhancement Works:

  • Construction works will be ongoing at the junction of Lord Edward Street and Wolfe Tone Street. Traffic Management measures will be in place and motorists can expect minor delays. These works are being carried out by Sligo County Council in partnership with the NTA. The project will enhance pedestrian mobility in the vicinity of the road junction as well as improve connectivity to the public transport network. The works are expected to be substantially complete by Friday 7th August. 

N4-N15 Sligo Urban Improvement Scheme:

  • Traffic Diversions on the N15 Southbound lane in place as follows:
    • N15 Southbound traffic lane closed on approach to Sligo town with Diversion at Lisnalurg onto the Old Bundoran Road and onwards via Ballytivnan Road and the N16;
    • Closure of Right turn at the R291 Rosses Point Junction onto the N15 southbound, for traffic travelling into town, with diversion via the N15 Northbound / Elms Gardens / Ballytivnan Road and the N16;
  • Expected duration of these Diversions 4 weeks.
  • The N4/N15 Northbound Traffic is diverted on to a temporary diversion road between the Duck Street (N16) and the Rosses point Road (R291) junctions.
  • The N15 Northbound Traffic will be diverted onto new alignment North of the Rosses Point Road (R291) junction on Tuesday 4th August
  • Traffic Diversion on the N4 Northbound lane in place as follows:
    • The Right Turn for N4 Northbound Traffic entering Markievicz Road is closed.  A Traffic diversion is in place via N16 Duck Street / Holborn Hill and R286 Connughton Road.
  • Lane Narrowing / Closures and Stop / GO as follows
    • N4 Northbound Lane Closure on the N4 approaching the Ballast Quay junction and continuing past the Duck St (N16) Junction.
    • Lane narrowing on the N4 Southbound between N16 Duck Steet junction and R870 Markievicz Junction. South bound traffic is reduced to one lane.
    • STOP/GO system & Lane narrowing/re-alignment will continue off peak on R291 Rosses point Road to facilitate pavement and surfacing works
    • Lane narrowing on the N16 at the junction with the N4/N15.  This is to facilitate works on the traffic islands and drainage. Additional care should be taken.
  • Pedestrians Diversions as follows:
    • West Footway Closure in place between N4 Hughes Bridge and Circle K Garage - Ballytivnan through the R291 Rosses Point Road Junctions, with diversions in place onto East Footway.
    • Footway diversions in place on N15 Southbound (East Footway) to facilitate works at Copper River Culvert and between Duck Street and Markievicz Road.
    • Footway diversions in place on N15 Southbound (East Footway) opposite HSE building to facilitate Works.
    • Pedestrian crossing relocated at R291 Rosses Point Junction
  • Sligo County Council wishes to apologise for any inconvenience arising from the implementation of these measures.

O’Connell Street Enhancement Scheme Project:

  • O’Connell Street is reopened to traffic as of Friday 31st July 8.30am
  • Both East and West footpaths are open to Pedestrians
  • Wine Street Line Marking is scheduled to occur Tuesday 4th August
  • Loading Bay / Bus Stop Line Marking scheduled for Tuesday 4th August noting access to the bays will be restricted for a short duration during these works
  • Snagging works will be undertaken throughout O’ Connell Street which will involve remote small works areas.
  • Additional Traffic Light pole will be installed on John Street Pedestrian crossing
    • Pedestrians will be diverted to alternative footpaths for these works
  • Cleaning of pavement surfaces

Stephen Street Car Park:

  • Works ongoing in Stephen Street Car Park for the Cantilevered Shared Space Project, Car parking is reduced by up 20 spaces. Works will be ongoing for 12 weeks. 

Ballast Quay – Water Mains Replacement  Works: 

  • Watermain Replacement works on Ballast Quay in the vicinity of Sligo Supply Centre are ongoing and will take approximately 2 weeks. This work is essential to improve water quality in the area.  A traffic light shuttle system will be in place throughout the duration of the works. Minor delays can be expected. Sligo County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.

     

NORTH SLIGO AREA

  • Major bridge works will commence at Aghagad south of Grange on Local Road No. L-7209-0 on Tuesday 4th The road will be closed with local traffic diverting via the N15 National Primary Road to and from Grange.  Works are expected to be completed by Friday 28th August.
  • Roadworks will take place on Thursday 6th August on Local Road No. L-3305-0 Coolbeg, Carney.  Traffic Management and diversions will be in operation. Motorists to exercise caution.
  • Roadworks will take place on Thursday 6th August on Local Road No. L-3402-0 Cullaghmore, Carney.  Traffic Management and diversions will be in operation. Motorists to exercise caution.
  • Roadworks will take place on Friday 7th August on Local Road No. L-3402-0 Mullaghnaneane, Grange.  Traffic Management and diversions will be in operation. Motorists to exercise caution.
  • Roadworks will take place on Friday 7th August on Local Roads Nos. L-3402-0/L-3403-0-0 Cartronmore, Drumcliffe.  Traffic Management will be in operation. Motorists to exercise caution.

  

ENNISCRONE AREA

  • Road Restoration will be carried out in Skreenbeg L62023-0 (128) a temporary road closure will be in place. Local Access will be provided. A 50km/hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out in Ballygillcash a temporary road closure will be in place. Local Access will be provided. A 50km/hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out in Tullylin L65105-0 (125) a temporary road closure will be in place. Local Access will be provided. A 50km/hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on L46011-0 (462) Carrowaskeagh. A temporary rod closure will be in place. Diversions via L8601-0 (513) and L4601-0(462). A 50km/hr speed limit will apply within the site.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on L24011-0 (79.1) Killeenduff. A temporary rod closure will be in place. A 50km/hr speed limit will apply within the site.
  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L6514-0 (62) Culleens, a temporary road closure will be in place, Local access will be provided. Diversion via L6515-11 (64) and N59.

  

BALLYMOTE AREA

  • Pothole repair ongoing throughout the area. Traffic management will be in operation with minor delays expected.
  • Verge trimming will be taking place along the R296, R284 and R295 from Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th August, 2020. Traffic management will be in operation but no delays are expected.

N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project:

The N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project Construction Works are continuing and shall require the following traffic management for the coming week:

  • N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout heading south on the existing N4 towards Dublin - Site Works ongoing for the first 3km to the junction with the L1302. Hard shoulders are closed to traffic. Please note a 60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone for the duration of these works. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • The L-14019 Local Road junction with the N4 National Primary road, to the Cloonamahan Health Care Centre, has been moved to the north by approximately 50 metres. Diversion signs are in place. 
  • The L-3606-9 Local Road at Cloonamahan from its junction with the N4 National Primary road to the junction with the L-14019-0 shall be opened on Friday evening, 24th July 2020. However, traffic cannot access/egress at the old N4/L3606-9 junction. Traffic shall be diverted to a temporary junction approximately 400m to the south.  Traffic management and an advisory speed limit of 35kph shall be in place as remedial works will be ongoing. 
  • A stop go will be in operation intermittently approximately 2.5km south of the N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout in the townland of Doorly. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • A stop go will be in operation intermittently in the townland of Doorly in order to form a new junction for the realigned local road L-55015 with the existing N4. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L55015 at Doorly.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L55016 at Knockagroagh.
  • The L-5502-0 at Drumfin Td. approximately 310 metres west of its junction with the existing N4 for a distance of approximately 570 metres in a westerly direction towards the Bogline Bridge shall be opened on Friday evening, 24th July 2020. Traffic management and an advisory speed limit of 35kph shall be in place as remedial works will be ongoing. 
  • The L-1502 at Cloonlurg shall be closed to public traffic from approximately 75metres southwest of its junction with the N4 National Primary route in the townland of Drumfin for a distance of approximately 600m to the townland of Cloonlurg.

    This is necessary to facilitate the construction of the new realigned L-1502 and Drumfin Overbridge (South). The period of proposed closure is from Tuesday the 28th July up to and including the 11th September.

    Alternative route for traffic (excluding HGVs) will be via the L-5501-0 in the townlands of Newpark, Kilcreevin and Branchfield, the L-5502 in the townlands of Clooneen and Drumfin; and the existing N4 in the townland of Drumfin.

    Alternative route for HGVs will be via the N17 and the R293 when travelling from the Galway and Sligo directions and via the L-1404 when travelling from the Dublin direction.  
  • The L-5402-0 at Carrownagark Td. approximately 190 metres west of its junction with the existing N4 to the crossroads junction with the L-5403-0 in the townland of Kilmorgan shall be opened on Friday evening, 24th July 2020. Traffic management and an advisory speed limit of 35kph shall be in place as remedial works will be ongoing. 
  • General site works and bridge construction works are ongoing on the L-54033 at Kingsbrook. Localised road layout changes will be in place. Please follow the traffic management plan in operation.
  • Ongoing general site works on the L-5403 at Ardloy.
  • 60kph speed limit is in operation on the existing N4 at Ardloy Td. which is approximately 3Km northwest (Sligo Town side) of Castlebaldwin Village.   
  • The L-5401 at Springfield/Tawnagh Td. shall be closed to public traffic from its junction with the N4 National Primary road in a northern direction, for a distance of approximately one kilometre to the townland of Tawnagh up to and including Monday, 21st September. Alternative route for traffic will be via the N4 National Primary Route and the L-5401-3, in the townland of Carrownagark, Knockadoo and Tawnagh. General site and bridge construction works ongoing at this location.
  • Permanent Road Closure of the L-54041-0 in the Townland of Sheerevagh from the 4th June 2019. An alternative route is available via the L-5404-0, L-1403-0, L-1404-0 and the existing N4. This road shall be used as a site access for the construction works.
  • Ongoing general site works on the L-1404 at Drumderry/Castlebaldwin.
  • The south bound hard shoulder and south bound carriageway is closed to traffic on the existing N4 for approximately 1km to the south of Castlebaldwin Village. Please note a 60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.
  • Stop go will be in operation intermittently south of Castlebaldwin Village in the townland of Cloghoge Upper. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • The existing south bound hard shoulder and south bound carriageway closures shall be extended to the end of the construction works south of Castlebaldwin Village. Stop Go will also be in operation as required. Minor delays are expected as a result. A Stop Go will be in operation on the L1404 side road for the crossing of plant.
  • Blasting works shall continue at Drumderry Td. (Approximately 0.7km to the north of Castlebaldwin Village) between 12 noon and 4pm alternating between Tuesdays and Thursdays for the coming weeks. There will be no impact to traffic on the N4 or the local road network as a result.

TUBBERCURRY AREA

  • Perimeter fencing works, associated with the upgrade of the Lough Talt Water Treatment Plant for Irish Water, are programmed to be ongoing during the week on the R294 in the townland of Gortersluin approx 12km on the Ballina side of Tobercurry. A traffic management plan will be in place but motorists can expect short delays in the vicinity of the Treatment Plant with temporary traffic lights in operation. These works are expected to be completed by the end of July.
  • Road strengthening works ongoing on the R293 Kilfree. A Road Closure will be in operation during working hours with diversions via the R294 Mullaghroe / L4104-0 Monasteradan / R293 Edmondstown Cross roads and vice versa. Works are expected to last 2 days.
  • Bridgeworks are currently taking place on the R294 in the townland of Drimina approx 4km on the Ballina side of Tobercurry. Temporary traffic lights in operation. These works are expected to be completed by the end of July.
  • Bridgeworks are currently taking place on the L-2702-34 between Mullany’s Cross and Cloonacool. Temporary traffic lights in operation approx. 1km on the Lough Talt side of Cloonacool village. These works are expected to be completed by the end of July.
  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Tubbercurry area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.  

  

STRANDHILL AREA

  • Minor works will continue at Carrignagat railway bridge, Collooney, on the R290. Temporary Traffic management will be in place. No delays are expected.
  • The installation of ramps will take place on the main street in Ballintogher (R290) on Tuesday 4th Diversions are in place for through traffic via the R287. Local access will be permitted to Ballintogher village.  Sligo County Council would like to thank motorists, other road users and residents for their cooperation during these essential works.
