The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Paul Taylor, welcomed all present to the Annual General Meeting. Before proceedings got underway, Members extended their sympathies to the family of the late Detective Garda Colm Horkan (R.I.P.) who had tragically lost his life in the line of duty earlier in the week.  Members recalled how Det. Garda Horkan had strong ties with the Ballymote-Tubbercurry Municipal District and was a widely respected and well-regarded member of An Garda Síochána.

A minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the late Garda.

On resumption of the meeting, the Cathaoirleach also extended condolences to Councillor Dara Mulvey on the recent passing of his brother John (R.I.P.).

Councillor Taylor thanked the Members for their support throughout his tenure as Chair and thanked the Executive for the work being undertaken in the Municipal District.

Members paid tribute to the outgoing Cathaoirleach describing him as “very fair”.  They felt their points of view were always listened to and respected and they all worked well as a team for the benefit of the areas they represent and the electorate.
