Minutes of Strategic Policy Committee 2 - Climate & Infrastructure Meeting of Sligo County Council held at 11.00 am on Tuesday 31st March 2025 in The Council Chamber, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo

The Cathaoirleach welcomed all present to the meeting.

 

1.  MINUTES OF MEETING OF SPC2 HELD ON 21st MAY 2024:

Proposed by Councillor D Gilroy
Seconded by Councillor T Healy

 

2.  MATTERS ARISING:

None

 

3.  REQUEST FOR PRESENTATION FROM FUTURECAST

J Molloy gave a brief overview of the company Futurecast.  Proposed by Cllr G Mullaney and seconded by Cllr D Gilroy to invite Futurecast to give a presentation at the next SPC meeting.  Thereafter, it will be decided on whether a presentation should be made to the full Council.

 

4.  DRAFT ROAD SAFETY STRATEGY

P Hampson gave a summary of the Road Safety Strategy.  It was stated that it will be reviewed on an annual basis.  The Road Safety Strategy for County Sligo 2025-2030 was proposed by Cllr D Gilroy and seconded by Cllr G Mullaney.

J Molloy stated that the purpose of the SPC2 meetings is to develop policies and not to deal with operational matters.  It was noted that the delay in SPC groups meeting was due to a review of SPCs following the local elections.

Cllr Clarke advised the meeting that members of the Ballymote Tubbecurry MD, the Cathaoirleach and Director of Services will be meeting with the Minister re the N17 and the N17 Action Group will be updated accordingly.

 

5. DRAFT NOISE ACTION PLAN

K O'Gorman gave a summary of the Noise Action Plan.  Following a general discussion Sligo County Council Noise Action Plan 2024-2028 was proposed by Cllr T Healy and seconded by Cllr G Mullaney.

Cllr Clarke welcomed Kieran O’Gorman to Sligo County Council.

 

6.  SPEED LIMITE REVIEW

J Molloy advised that the Speed Limit Review consultative process will be opening soon and requested members to publicise it.

It was clarified that the condition of a roadway and traffic count determines road maintenance expenditure.

 

7.  REQUEST FOR ITEMS FOR WORK PROGRAMME

J Molloy asked the members to contribute a list of Work Programme Policies which they wish to be considered at this SPC.  It was clarified that it is policies as opposed to operational matters.

 

8.  ANY OTHER BUSINESS

None

 

9.   TO CONFIRM THE DATE FOR THE NEXT SPC2 MEETING

The preliminary date for the next meeting 20th June 2025 coincides with pre-arranged meetings.  It was agreed to revert with a revised date.

 

Cllr Clarke thanked everyone for attending.  The meeting concluded at 12.25 pm.
