World Sand Dune Day is celebrated on the 25th of June, and to mark the occasion, Sligo County Council and ATU Sligo are hosting an event in Enniscrone Beach to discuss sand dunes.
World Sand Dune Day Event at Enniscrone Beach with ATU Sligo
Enniscrone is one of three coastal communities involved in the SCORE project, which aims to increase the long-term resilience of coastal communities from increasing sea levels, coastal flooding, and erosion.
Experts from ATU will be on the beach from 13:00-15:00 to demonstrate the following:
- Sand Dune in a box experiment
- Talk about the socio-economic role of the sand dunes
- Kite aerial photography experiment
Members of the Sligo County Council Climate Action team will also be present to answer questions about sand dune protection and climate resilience.
The event will be suitable for all ages and free to attend.
