Council supports ‘Make Way’ Day

Sligo County Council Members formally agreed to support the initiative at their September meeting, and they hosted an event on Thursday at Sligo City Hall.
According to the Cathaoirleach Councillor Tom MacSharry ‘This event provides an excellent opportunity to create public awareness of the many challenges faced by people with disabilities, particularly in an urban environment. Today’s promotion will have proved effective if it encourages drivers to be more thoughtful in public spaces. For instance, drivers parking on footpaths can often mean a person in a wheelchair cannot pass, and this is a situation we should not tolerate as a community. Initiatives such as ‘Make Way Day’ will prompt drivers in particular to be more considerate of people with disabilities.’
