Increased Enforcement in Pay and Display Areas

‘The enhanced options provided by the recently upgraded parking meters has proved very popular with the public’, according to Martina Casey, Administrative Officer with Sligo County Council, who explains that the move to cashless options pay for parking is in line with a growing trend generally.

Introduced in 2018, the service gives a number of choices to the customer by allowing them to pay for parking via the Parking Tag app on their smart-phones, online, by SMS or by phone.  ‘It is part of the ongoing drive to improve services for customers’, said Ms. Casey.

The roll out of the new Pay & Display meters in 2018 also provides the Council with up-to-date data on parking trends throughout all Pay & Display areas and has dealt with a long standing problem of Parking Meters being out of order resulting in inconvenience for the customer.

‘It is important to highlight that the new meters also allow for more even patrolling and enforcement of Pay & Display areas’ said Martina Casey, who takes the opportunity to thank the vast majority of motorists who comply with the Parking Bye-laws, but advises that outlying areas that were not patrolled previously would now be subject to routine monitoring.  ‘We would advise the minority who fail to pay for parking that they run the risk of incurring fines of up to €80 and possible court appearance and costs’, she said.

A number of new Pay & Display areas were added in 2018 and the Council is anxious that the public would be fully aware of the Pay & Display requirements on those roads.  They include:

St Anne’s Terrace         from its junction at Riverside to its junction at St Anne’s

Holborn Hill                  from its junction with Barrack Street to its junction with the roundabout at Ash Lane/Duck Street

Pirnmill Road                Between Finisklin Road and Ballast Quay

Finisklin Road               From Pirn Mill Road to Rathedmond Road
