Confirmation of Minutes of 28th May 2026

Minutes of 28th May 2026 meeting were confirmed.

 

Matters Arising

  • Time restrictions at disabled parking bays to be removed in Q4 2026.
  • Operation Enable referred to Disability Consultative Committee.

 

General Items

  • Presentation by Sean Kelly from Alone. 
  • New committee members Lorna Curry and Carolina Pena Navarro welcomed
  • Amendments to Standing Orders as to public and Oireachtas meetings adopted.
  • Appointment of new members Caroline Forde and Lorna Curry to Community Safety Plan (CSP) Subgroup confirmed.
  • Report from Chair of CSP to be circulated to members.

 

Members Interest Items (MII’s)

  • Education and awareness emphasised for illegal parking on pavements and dropped kerbs.
  • Operation of traffic speed detection devices clarified.
  • Garda update given on additional Garda in rural areas.
  • Update given on future use of OPW building adjacent to Tubbercurry Garda Station.
  • Update given on traffic management plans in emergencies.

 

Local Community Safety Plan update

  • Two Subgroup meetings held since last LCSP meeting.
  • Public consultation remains open to 18th
  • Over 400 surveys completed to date.
  • Consultant appointed to draft Plan.
  • Work program on Plan to be drafted.

Members received information on:

  • Reminder on feedback deadline 11th September on draft National Strategy.
  • Garda Divisional Plan 2026 already circulated to members.
  • Laois LCSP on e-scooter legislation was circulated for info/comments.

  • Date for Oireachtas meeting to be confirmed.
