Radon

Radon is a gas, which is derived from the breakdown of naturally occurring radioactive material in rocks and soils. To us humans it is difficult to detect because of its natural properties being colourless and odourless. When radon accumulates in enclosed spaces it may pose a threat to human health, however when it surfaces in the open air, it is quickly diluted to harmless concentrations.

Testing Radon levels requires special equipment, therefore if you are concerned about high levels of radon in your dwelling, testing kits are available from the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland.
