Communities Show Pride of Place

Communities throughout County Sligo recently showcased the excellent work being delivered through the ‘Pride of Place’ scheme. This annual initiative is coordinated by Co-operation Ireland and Sligo County Councilís Directorate of Community & Enterprise.

Judging Panels from Co-operation Ireland visited four community projects at the end of June. The Mayor Councillor Jonathan McGoldrick was in attendance at ‘The Catacombs’ the Mall Sligo, and Sligo Resource Centre, Forthill to welcome the judges, while Leas Cathaoirleach Councillor Martin Baker performed the honours in Banada and St Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurry.  Mayor McGoldrick commended the efforts of the local volunteers ‘The groups selected for nomination have carried out exemplary work to enhance their respective areas.  While the projects are diverse, a common theme that has united them has been the wholehearted commitment that has underpinned these efforts.’ Leas Cathaoirleach Baker noted ‘The communities driving the pride of place ideal can be proud of their efforts, as they have focused people’s attention on the upkeep, protection and promotion of our local communities.’
