Blue Flags for Mullaghmore and Rosses PointSligo County Council has welcomed the announcement by An Taisce that Rosses Point and Mullaghmore beaches have retained their Blue Flag for the 2007 season. Blue Flags are awarded based on 26 criteria which must be met during the previous season. These include bathing water quality, beach management, environmental education, and life guard service.
However Enniscrone was not successful in retaining its blue flag status this year due to a small number of water quality samples not reaching the very stringent standards during the 2006 season.
Sligo’s full bathing water quality monitoring programme commenced in mid May and included this year for the first time are Streedagh and Dunmoran Beaches. Water quality at all five beaches is monitored fortnightly during the bathing season, and results of this monitoring will be displayed at each beach. To date all results show full compliance with the very stringent blue flag water quality standards. Sligo County Council continues to work towards achieving the highest environmental standards at all our beaches. |
