Promoting Economic and Tourism Development in Tubbercurry

Sligo County Council in conjunction with Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a Public Consultation Session on proposals for the economic and tourism development of Tubbercurry. All businesses, community and voluntary groups and the were invited to attend.

Objectives of the Economic & Tourism Development Project
  • To develop an Economic and Tourism Strategy for the area.
  • Community Enterprise space - examine the feasibility of developing community enterprise space in Tubbercurry.
  • Provide assistance with improving the overall aesthetic look of the area.
  • Advice on Business Start-up and expansion in conjunction with Sligo County Enterprise Board.
The purpose of the Public Consultation Session was to:
  • Provide background information to the Economic & Tourism Development Project.
  • Provide feedback on the results of the recent Business Survey carried out in the area.
  • Examine issues relevant to Economic & Tourism development, which will contribute to the formulation of a focused, strategic and workable plan for future developments in Tubbercurry.
Workshops
The format for the public consultation evening ensured maximum participation from those attending. Workshops were held around a number of relevant topics:
  1. Business/Enterprise Development,
  2. Tourism,
  3. Social/Community Facilities.
Each session concluded with feedback from the workshops by facilitators. Working groups were established and Geraldine Timlin, in her role as Sligo County Council’s Economic Development Officer, will facilitate the working groups at local level and externally with funding agencies.

Business Surveys were distributed in August / September 2006 and all those returned to date have been analysed. In order to obtain an accurate and correct understanding of future plans for Tubbercurry, and to ensure the success of the Economic Development project, it is vital that as many Business Surveys as possible are returned. To this end Business Surveys are again being distributed in the area and both Sligo County Council and Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce would encourage your support with their completion.
