Testing water Supplies

03/10/2008 -

Test results received from  recent water samples taken at three properties in Sligo town by Sligo County Council indicate a presence of lead above the recommended standard. The properties are at the Mall, Quay Street and Ballytivnan.  Following consultation with the Health Service Executive, the relevant householders have been contacted and have been advised that consumption of the water is to be avoided until further notice.

Sligo County Council will carry out further investigations to establish the nature of the water supply connections to these properties and to determine if remedial works are required.

Sligo County Council in collaboration with the Health Services Executive and the EPA, has commenced a detailed review of the public water supply. An information leaflet has been placed on the Local Authorities websites and has been published in local newspapers. The Council is continuing its ongoing programme of testing on public water supplies in accordance with the Regulations EC (Drinking Water) Regulations 2007. The Health Service Executive and the Environmental Protection Agency are currently finalising national guidelines in conjunction with the Local Authorities.
