About Sligo County Council

Sligo County Council recently celebrated a centenary of service to the people of county Sligo.In the last year, under a national programme of Local Government reform, the Council underwent a radical transformation. A new committee structure was established (Strategic Policy Committees) which enhanced the policy making role of elected members and also provided the framework for genuine input from local interests.

The staff organisation was also completely re-vamped, with a new management tier introduced 4 Directors of Service were appointed, who have managerial responsibility for large divisions of the Council’s operations. Other structural and grading changes were also introduced with the objective of providing a more streamlined, accessible service to the public.
