About County Development Board

Sligo County Development Board (CDB) Sligo County Development Board (CDB) had its inaugural meeting of the 27th March, 2000 in the Yeats County Inn, Curry, Co. Sligo. Membership of the Board is drawn from Local Government, Local Development, State Agencies and the Social Partners including the Community and Voluntary Sector

The role of Sligo CDB is to co-ordinate and integrate the activities of all public sector activity in the County. This is to be achieved through the preparation and implementation of a Strategy for Economic Social and Cultural Development which will be the framework within which all agencies operating at local level agree to work together for more effective delivery of public services.

The Strategy for Economic Social and Cultural Development

In formulating a strategy for county Sligo, the County Development Board had three primary objectives:

  • Draft and highlight the challenges that impact on everyday life in County Sligo;
  • Consider ways of making the delivery of public services more accessible for everybody;
  • Develop the ten year ‘shared vision’ for County Sligo

The next phase of the CDB process involves the implementation of the Strategy and will require the various stakeholders to work in partnership and to provide the necessary support and resources, such as human, financial and their time, in order to achieved the desired outcomes.  Its is planned to hold workshops in October to further advance this phase.

Desired outcomes of the CDB Process

The Strategy Shared Vision is of Sligo as a place with vibrant cultural and commercial activity, a thriving urban centre, dynamic and safe urban and rural communities, a strong sense of civic pride and a superior quality of life

Key goals of the CDB process include:

  • The development of a critical mass of infrastructure Developments in enterprise, industry, agriculture, retail and tourism that maximise opportunities and employment potential in an environmentally sustainable way.
  • The development of a co-ordinated and multi-agency approach in tackling the structural and attitudinal barriers surrounding social inclusion
  • The promotion of Sligo’s cultural life whilst balancing accessibility and development with the need to protect and preserve the County’s heritage and unique environment.
