Draft CDP Variation No. 1 – Strandhill Mini-Plan

Public Consultation: 22 January – 5 March 2013

Sligo County Council has prepared a Mini-Plan for Strandhill, which it proposes to incorporate in the County Development Plan 2011-2017 (CDP) as a variation. At the same time, it is proposed to revoke the existing Strandhill Local Area Plan.

The reason for the proposed variation is the legal requirement to ensure that the Strandhill plan is consistent with the Core Strategy of the CDP.

The process leading to the adoption of the Mini-Plan will be similar to that for a local area plan, i.e. involving 6 weeks of public consultation on the draft document.

The Draft Mini-Plan consists of a written statement and a set of maps:

Strandhill Local Area Plan 2003-2012

Strandhill is the first settlement in County Sligo for which a local area plan has been prepared. The Plan was adopted by the elected members of Sligo County Council at their ordinary meeting of 7th July 2003. It was going to remain in force for six years, but it could have been amended at any time.

The Plan was amended for the first time on 19 April 2004, in that 2.32 hectares (5.74 acres) of land in the buffer zone at Larass was rezoned for low-density residential use. The Zoning Map (Map 8) has been revised to include this amendment.

The Plan was amended for the second time on 6 July 2009, when its life was extended from the initial six years (2003-2009) to nine years. The Plan will, therefore, remain in force until the 6th of July 2012.

The Strandhill Local Area Plan is the result of extensive consultation with local residents, elected Members, local community groups, sporting interests, commercial and business interests, developers, landowners, County Council officials and prescribed bodies. This consultation commenced in early 1999 and included meetings, discussions and written submissions. The Plan, therefore, reflects a range of inputs and represents a widely agreed framework for the future development of the village.

Strandhill Local Area Plan is the main public statement of planning policies for the village and its environs and will be used in the assessment of all development proposals for the area. It is therefore an important document, which may affect the lives of those who live, work and recreate in the village. It will also guide those who have an interest in its development.

Printed copies of the Plan are available for inspection or purchase at the Planning Office of the County Council, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo.
