Sligo County Diaspora Strategy 2019 - 2024 was launched in City Hall.

On Wednesday May 1st, the Sligo County Diaspora Strategy 2019 - 2024 was launched in City Hall. The launch comes after a comprehensive strategy was compiled in collaboration with Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon County Councils. The process began in 2017 when the local authorities in the region identified a need to develop a strategy in line with the National Government Strategy - Global Irish.

Sligo County Council elected members and staff are mourning the passing of one of the Council’s longest serving members, Councillor Margaret Gormley, who passed away Friday morning. The Gormley family connection with Sligo County Council goes back to 1942, when her late father Willie was first elected to the Council. Margaret was co-opted onto the Council in 1980 and successfully contested every subsequent local election. Margaret was elected Cathaoirleach in 2004.

68 Community Groups from within the Sligo Municipal District who between them shared grant aid of over €135,000 in the ‘Community Enhancement Programme’ were today invited to an acknowledgement and promotional event in City Hall. The event was organised by the LCDC who provided this grant aid. MC for the event was Senior Staff Officer Jude Mannion and speakers included the Chairperson Cllr Sinead Maguire along with a number of community groups themselves. A similar event is to take place in Tubbercurry for the Ballymote-Tubbercurry Municipal District later in the month.

Update on Hazardous Waste disposal service at Greenstar, Deepwater Quay

Due to the unprecedented demand for the free disposal of household hazardous waste at the Greenstar Facility in Sligo this morning and in consultation with the Sligo Gardai, the service had to be terminated due to traffic congestion, health and safety concerns and the site having reached full capacity. We thank the public for the support in this initiative and we apologise to those who were unable to dispose of their waste. We hope to find a solution to those who were affected and will issue an update in due course.
