Minutes of Strategic Policy Committee 3 – Transportation and Infrastructure Policy Meeting held on 16th February, 2006

1. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

1.1 Minutes of Meeting held on 13th October, 2005 having been circulated were taken as read and confirmed on the proposal of Councillor Gormley, seconded by Councillor Murray.

2. MATTER ARISING

Noted.

3. MOTION BY RITA ANN BURKE

3.1 Following debate agreed on the proposal of Councillor Murray seconded by Councillor Gormley that special speed limits generally be reviewed within a six month period of implementation to take the issue raised and other matters into consideration. All present welcomed the Council’s initiative on the erection of flashing lights at schools commencing in the Clár area with a specific recommendation that this extend to all schools in the County.

4. GATEWAY CITY

4.1 Mr. T. Brennan made a presentation to the Committee with a briefing document dated 16th February circulated.

5. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

5.1 It was agreed on a proposal by Councillor Lundy that a position paper on the promotion of tourism signage be tabled for discussion at the next meeting.

5.2 It was agreed on a proposal by Councillor Sherlock that this SPC recommend that North West tourism be invited to attend a meeting of the Council on the promotion of Sligo as a tourism destination.
