Sligo County Council, on behalf of the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, is now inviting applications for the Structures at Risk Fund (SRF) 2012. The purpose of the Structures at Risk Fund is to assist with works to safeguard structures protected under the Planning and Development Acts 2000-2010 and, in certain cases, works to safeguard structures within Architectural Conservation Areas where an urgent need for works to such structures has arisen and has been demonstrated. Only structures in immediate danger of significant deterioration will qualify for consideration for funding. Sligo County Council is now inviting applications from owners and occupiers (with the consent of the owner) of protected structures seeking support for conservation works. The grant scheme applies to both the County and Borough Council areas.
Heritage Officer with Sligo County Council, Siobhan Ryan outlined that ‘Sligo had been successful in attracting funding under the 2011 SRF scheme, with an allocation of €45,000 being made to Hazelwood House for essential roof repairs’. She added that ‘it is very unfortunate that the Local Authority Conservation Grants Scheme which was operated by Local Authorities up to 2010 has been paused by the Department. The monies which had been available through that scheme provided essential financial support for conservation works to protected structures across the county. The current Structures at Risk Fund 2012 has a total budget of €500,000 to be allocated nationally and is very competitive. Year on year resources for built heritage conservation have diminished and it is a very challenging environment within which owners of protected structures carry out ongoing maintenance and repairs to their buildings’.
The closing date for completed application forms is 4pm on Wednesday 18th April 2012.
