Sligo County Council has reviewed the Local Area Plan (LAP) for Ballymote and proposes to make a new LAP for the period 2012-2018.
After pre-draft consultation in November-December 2011, a Draft Plan has now been prepared, consisting of a written document and a set of maps. The Plan sets out land use zoning proposals and detailed objectives for housing, community needs, open space, enterprise and town-centre development. It also addresses issues such as transport, urban design and the protection of heritage assets.
Following screening and consultation with prescribed environmental authorities, the planning authority has determined that the implementation of Ballymote Local Area Plan is not likely to have significant effects on the environment. Therefore, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is not required.
An Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening Report has also been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Habitats Directive.
Copies of the SEA Screening Report, the SEA decision and the AA Screening Report are available for inspection at the locations listed below.
Public consultation is an essential part of the local area plan process. It is important therefore, that the Draft Plan is examined and considered by anyone living, working or interested in the Ballymote area.
A copy of the Draft Plan will be available for inspection from Monday 23rd January to Monday 5th March, 2012 at the following locations/times:
The Draft Plan can be viewed and downloaded from the Council’s website at www.sligococo.ie/ballymote.
Copies of the Draft Plan will also be available for sale during this period at the Area Engineers Office, Teeling Street, Ballymote and the Planning Office, Sligo County Council, Riverside, Sligo.
In addition, key extracts from the Draft Plan will be on public display in Sligo County Council’s Riverside offices and in the Ballymote Branch Library.
Anyone wishing to make submissions or observations in respect of the Draft Plan may do so during the inspection period. Written submissions made to the Planning Authority within the stated period shall be taken into consideration prior to the adoption of the Plan. Submissions should include maps, where relevant.
