Noise Action Plan


Notice is hereby given that Sligo County Council and Sligo Borough Council propose to make a Noise Action Plan as required under The Environmental Noise Regulations, S.I. No. 140 of 2006 which give effect to the Environmental Noise Directive 2002/49/EC.

The plan is mainly concerned with noise in the vicinity of major roads where the levels of traffic exceed six million vehicle passages a year.  In Sligo City and County one section of road exceeds these limits and that is a 4.8km section of the N4 extending from Carraroe to the N4/N15/N16 junction (Duck Street/Rosses Point Road junction).

A copy of the Draft Noise Action Plan may be inspected at the offices outlined below from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm from Wednesday, 4th November, 2009 to Wednesday, 6th January, 2010:

  • Sligo Borough Council, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo
  • Sligo County Library, Stephen Street, Sligo
  • Sligo County Council, Teach Laighne, Humbert Street, Tobercurry, Co. Sligo.
  • Sligo County Council, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo

Submissions are welcome in respect of the Draft Noise Action Plan for the County and City of Sligo and may be made in writing to Director of Services (Infrastructure), Sligo County Council, Governor’s House, Sligo or Director of Services, Sligo Borough Council, City Hall, Sligo or by email to  noise@sligococo.ie.  Submissions should be received no later than 3.00 pm on Wednesday, 6th January, 2010.
