DEFERRED MOTIONS

  1. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor J. Queenan
“To call on the Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney to intervene in the collapse of cattle prices, which is causing great hardship in the farming community.
  2. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor S. Kilgannon
“That Sligo County Council calls on Central Government to advance and provide the necessary resources to make the case promoted by the Connaught Ulster Alliance for a University of Technology located across the 3 campuses of IT Sligo, Letterkenny and GMIT.”
  3. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor D. Mulvey
“In light of the massive state support for the refurbishment of the old cinema building in Ballymote and the huge community effort involved in transforming the centre into a modern state of the art theatre/cinema complex and the fact that the building is owned by Sligo County Council I am calling on Sligo County Council to put in place a management structure that would be the catalyst for the centre to reach its full potential.

The building is unique in its structure combining the old world theatre with modern facilities that can be used for many purposes to the benefit of the entire region. I am calling on Sligo Co. Co. to put a structure in place similar to The Maritime Centre in Enniscrone, The Hawks Well Theatre, Sligo, and The Coleman Centre, Gurteen. The Ballymote Theatre and Film Company is a limited company and is debt free. Funding is available to carry out a feasibility study to access the form and structure of a management team that should include representatives from the council, drama, tourism, the local community and any other potential users of the facility.

The Art Deco has the capability to be an interpretative centre highlighting the history of the region, the tourist attractions including the nearby megalithic tombs, Ballymote Castle, The Book of Ballymote, Carrowmore Megalithic site, Lissadell House, Glencar Waterfalls, Parkes Castle, Yeats Grave, all a short journey off the Wild Atlantic Drive. I think that Sligo County Council is duty bound, as custodians of this property to ensure that this facility is managed in a transparent and accountable manner and that it achieves its full potential for the future enjoyment for the entire community.”
  4. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor P. Taylor
“That Sligo County Council call on the Minister for the Environment to immediately introduce a commercial rates concession to those businesses that are unable to open every day or for normal trading hours due to peripheral or rural location.”

  6. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor R. O’Grady
“That Sligo County Council call on the Government to announce the necessary resources to provide for Cardio Catherisation laboratory facilities at Sligo Regional Hospital, so as to provide patients with an equal standard of treatment similar to other regions where the potential for emergency stenting within the internationally best practice time frame of 90 minutes exists.”

MOTIONS

  1. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillors S. Mac Manus and T. Healy

This document is a unique opportunity and will be a vital pilot project for County Sligo and the country. This document is to help communities to help themselves in the role of community development, social enterprise, job creation and tourism development, and in light of the location of Ballymote and Tubbercurry to Knock International Airport and the Atlantic Corridor.

I call on Sligo County Council to engage with all the stake holders involved, Minister Of State Ann Phelan, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport with special responsibility for Rural Economic Development and Mr Ian Brannigan, CEO of the Western Development Commission.”
