About Planning

The Planning Section of Sligo County Council is responsible for implementing the provisions of the Planning and Development Acts 2000-2002 and the Planning Regulations 2001-2005.
This involves:
  • preparation and review of development plans – function performed by the Development Planning Unit.  View the Development Plans
  • consideration of development proposals/planning applications – function performed by the Development Control Section.  Making a Planning Applications
  • enforcement of planning legislation – function performed by the Enforcement Section. 
The Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government (www.environ.ie) publishes a series of leaflets on all aspects of the planning system. They cover a whole range of issues including how to make a planning application, lodge an appeal, requirements for change of use, building an extension to your home, in a word – everything you need to know but didn't know who to ask.

These leaflets are available free of charge from the County Council’s Planning Section. You can download them in PDF format free of charge by from the Downloads section
