Planning - Christmas and New Year Arrangements 2016/2017

Holiday Arrangements:

The offices will be closed to the public from 4.00pm on Friday 23rd December, 2016 and will re-open at 10.00 am on Thursday 29th December, 2016.  The offices will also be closed on Monday 2nd January 2017.

Holiday Period Rule:

Where calculating any appropriate period or other time limit referred to in the Planning & Development Acts 2000 -2015  and their Regulations , the period between the 24thday of December and the first day of January (both days inclusive) ,referred to as the ‘holiday period’, shall be disregarded.

Accordingly time limits specified relating to the maintenance of site notices and receipt of submissions or observations are extended by 9 days.

The Planning Section of Sligo County Council is responsible for implementing the provisions of the Planning and Development Acts 2000-2010 and the Planning Regulations 2001-2010.

This involves:

  • preparation and review of development plans – function performed by the Development Planning Unit.  View the Development Plans
  • consideration of development proposals/planning applications – function performed by the Development Management Section.  Making a Planning Application
  • enforcement of planning legislation – function performed by the Enforcement Section

The Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government ( publishes a series of leaflets on all aspects of the planning system. They cover a whole range of issues including how to make a planning application, lodge an appeal, requirements for change of use, building an extension to your home, in a word – everything you need to know but didn't know who to ask. Please note that the Department has not updated the information in the leaflets since 2002 and whilst they are still relevant and informative, you are advised to check any point of importance with the Planning Department, who will be able to advise if any significant change has occurred since their publication.
