Driving Licence Requirements

ALL DRIVERS LICENCE APPLICATIONS MUST HAVE PPSN (RSI NUMBER) QUOTED

To apply for a 1st Provisional Licence you will need:

• Completed Application Form
• A Birth Certificate / Passport
• Marriage Certificate (if appropriate)
• A medical report for classes C, C1, D, D1, EC, EC1, ED and ED1 - Valid for one month after issue
• An eyesight report for classes A, A1, B, EB and W - eyesight report valid for one month from issue
• Fee for 2 years - 15
• 2 recent identical Passport photographs (signed on back)
• Driver Theory Test Pass Certificate

To apply for a 2nd Provisional Licence you will need:

• Application Form
• 2 recent identical Passport photographs (signed on back)
• Old Licence/Last Licence
• Fee of 15

To apply for a 3rd Provisional Licence you will need:

• 2 recent identical Passport photographs (signed on back)
• DOELG Notification of Time of forthcoming test or Failure Cert (valid for two years only)
• Old Licence
• Fee 15
• If you have not sat a test in the last two years you must submit:
  Written Confirmation of Test Date from Driving Test Section Government buildings. Tel 096 24200 or Lo-Call: 1890 406040. Note that the rates charged for the use of 1890 (LoCall) numbers may vary among different service providers.

• In this case a 1 year licence will only be granted

To apply for a Full Licence you will need:

• Completed Application Form
• Two recent identical Photographs (signed on the back)
• Last Licence
• The Appropriate Fee of 15 for a three year licence or 25 for a 10 year licence
• Certificate of Competency (where appropriate)
• A medical report for classes C, C1, D, D1, EC, EC1, ED and ED1
• Over 70's are Free

Renewal of Full Licence

• Completed Application Form
• Two recent identical Photographs (signed on the back)
• Last Licence
• The Appropriate Fee of 15 for a three year licence or 25 for a 10 year licence
• A medical report for classes C, C1, D, D1, EC, EC1, ED and ED1

Duplicate Driving Licences

• Application Form
• Two recent identical Photographs (signed on the back) 
• Fee 10 

Free-in-lieu licences are issued in the following cases

• Extra category added
• Change of name/address
• Removal of endorsement
• If an error has been made in the issue of licence (e.g. incorrect date of birth)
